SMLC - Serving Mobile Location Centre
Mobile Arts Serving Mobile Location Centre (SMLC) handle Location requests sent through the Radio Network Controller (RNC) or the Base Station Controller (BSC) for UMTS or GSM networks, respectively. The SMLC interfaces the RNC using PCAP (lupc) and the BSC using BSSAP-LE, BSSLAP and RRLP (Lb). These are all SS7 protocols.
The Mobile Arts SMLC is compliant with 3GPP specifications for GSM and UMTS and implements following positioning methods:
- GSM CGI Location (CGI + TA + NMR)
- GSM A-GPS Location (MS-based, MS-assisted)
- UMTS Cell-Id Location (Cell-Id + RTT)
- UMTS A-GPS Location (MS-based, MS-assisted)
Thus the Mobile Arts SMLC offers integrated support for both GSM and UMTS by supporting both GSM (SMLC) and UMTS (SAS) requirements.
The SMLC fetches radio network data from Radio Planning System or other external database using FTP.
The SMLC can interface an external or local GPS reference receiver via FTP for retrieval of GPS reference data.
As for the XMLC, GMLC server synchronisation is obtained from a NTP server and Network Management System is interfaced using SNMP. An Administration PC can interface the SMLC using a Command Line Interface (CLI), FTP, SCP and SFTP or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) accessed from a standard web-browser. For support reasons the SMLC can be accessed over VPN/IP by a Remote Access Gateway.
